|33rd Anniversary of January 7 Victory Day|

Tens of thousand of Cambodian People’s Party (CPP)’s supporters gathered at the CPP’s headquarters in Phnom Penh last Saturday to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the historic victory on January 7, 1979, the toppling day of the Khmer Rouge regime.
The ceremony was presided over by CPP President Samdech Akka Moha Thamma Pothisal Chea Sim, CPP Vice President Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and CPP Honorary President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin.
Also present were foreign ambassadors to Cambodia and representatives of Cambodian political parties and international organizations.
In his address to the participants at the ceremony, Samdech Chea Sim, also president of the Senate, recalled the history of the 7 January Victory Day, stressing that the rebirth, the stability and the development of the country are based on this victory.
He said the 33rd anniversary of the January 7 Victory Day is being celebrated at the time when the country’s situation in all fields is making positive development.
“The enormous positive changes clearly show that Cambodia is advancing swiftly on the correct path in response to the aspiration of the people. Although up to now, certain ill-willed circles pretend to see no truth, deny achievements of the people of Cambodia, while seeking all means to deter the Cambodian situation. However, they can never realize their ulterior motives because the Cambodian people are intelligent enough to digest their actions and can accept no more social destruction actions of any forms,” he said.
“Since 7 January Victory Day up to the present, every success we scored is because we have correct political leadership that is responding without delay to national and international situations and the wish of the people. We also have wide ranging and active support and participation of the people in the process of national construction and defense, physical, mental and able efforts of all level officials, and the armed forces in serving our nation and people, as well as the faithful support rendered from near and far countries as well as the whole international community from the time of national liberation through to the present. We all must continue to foster factors that score successes and to raise high the spirit of maintaining and safeguarding social achievements so as to make further gains,” he point out.
“In 2011, Cambodia has scored many new achievements in all fields of national development. The Royal Government of Cambodia under the wise leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has continued to successfully implement the political platform and Phase-II Rectangular Strategy,” he added.
Samdech Chea Sim went on to say that despite being hit by disastrous flooding, Cambodia has continued to make further progress. In 2011, the Cambodian economy has been assessed to generate 7-percent growth thanks to the high growths in industry and tourism sectors, whereas construction is also on a positive rise.
In the meantime, he underlined, Cambodia’s international relations have continuously strengthened and expanded making contributions to regional and world peace and stability, and national development in all fields. Cambodia has continued to actively participate in the UN missions to keep peace in countries in Africa and the Middle East. Cambodia widely and strongly strengthens and broadens relations and cooperation with friendly countries through exchanges of high-level delegations, thus making these relations to grow stronger day after day. While in the past years, various major regional and world meeting were hosted, in 2012, Cambodia will chair and host the ASEAN Summit and related meeting that are new and supreme honor for our nation, he added.
The CPP president also reiterated the CPP’s unanimous support for the candidacy of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen for the post of Prime Minister for the coming fifth legislative terms and every term to come.
He also affirmed the CPP’s support to the royal government’s efforts to expedite accomplishment of demarcation and border poles mounting with Vietnam and Laos according to agreed upon timeframe; continues to strongly and effectively promote cooperation for further development of the three countries.
“At the same time, CPP fully supports speedy implementation of the decision of the International Court of Justice on July 18, 2011 in relation to the Preah Vihear Temple so as to guarantee peace and stability along the border in the temple area, while promoting existing mechanisms concerned between the two countries, Cambodia and Thailand to resolve the border issue in the spirit of truly good neighbor aimed at building a borderline of peace, friendship, cooperation and development,” he said.
