New Book, “Hun Sen – Politics and Power in Khmer History for Over 40 Years” Launched PDF Print E-mail

The new book titled “Hun Sen – Politics and power in Khmer history for over 40 years” written by well-known Cambodian almost-20-year-experience journalist Mr. Chhay Sophal, was launched here on Jan. 5.

The Khmer-language book comprising more than 350 pages, describes briefly events on politics and power as well as social issues occurred in Cambodia’s history during the past four regimes between 1970-late 2011.

The book reveals events related to the political and power management, life and love of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Lok Chumteav Bun Rany Hun Sen, Mr. Chhay Sophal said at a press conference here yesterday, stressing that the likely historical book focuses also on main political figures including retired King Norodom Sihanouk, royal family members, Samdech Soeun San, Lon Nol, Khmer Rouge senior leaders as well as the current opposition leaders Sam Rainsy and Kem Sokha.

In its introduction, the book shows the cross-cutting involvement of foreign countries in Cambodia’s conflicts such as the U.S., the United Kingdom, China, Russia, other allies as well as ASEAN member countries, he added.

Mr. Sophal, who is the Education Officer of the Club of Cambodian Journalists and also the Editor-in-Chief of Cambodia News in English and Khmer at, said he has spent almost two years to write the book after collecting documents for more than 10 years.

Information Minister H.E. Khieu Kanharith, who has read the entire book, lauded the book, saying that it is an admirable achievement, which reflects all aspects with professional writing.

He further said the book reminded him of what happened in the past as some events it describes he had never known before.
