Cambodia Is Committed to Assume ASEAN Chairmanship with Responsibility PDF Print E-mail

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning reaffirmed that Cambodia will fulfill its role as the ASEAN Chair with responsibility.

Addressing hundreds of participants at the celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the “7 January Victory Day” in Kampong Cham province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Cambodia will try its best to chair the ASEAN with responsibility so as to reach the ASEAN Community by 2015.

“As the ASEAN chair this year, we will try all our best to moderate all regional and international agendas in the ASEAN Summit,” he said.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said ASEAN has brought a lot of advantages to Cambodia in terms of social and economic development, security and diplomacy.

Cambodia’s international relations have been opened and expanded as ASEAN has many partners such as the European Union, Korea, China, Japan, India, etc., he underlined.

Cambodia became an ASEAN member in 1999 and it first assumed the ASEAN Chairmanship three years later.

ASEAN members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
