PM: Cambodia To Fulfill Role As ASEAN Chair With Responsibility PDF Print E-mail

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen affirmed that Cambodia will fulfill its role as the Chair of ASEAN in 2012 with responsibility.

Speaking at a graduation ceremony held on Dec. 14 at the National Institute of Education in Phnom Penh, the Cambodian premier urged for endeavor to do the ASEAN works in fulfilling with responsibility the role as an ASEAN member as well as the ASEAN Chair to let the region process successfully and reach the ASEAN Community in 2015.

“Don’t forget, Hun Sen is not the only Chair of ASEAN, but the whole nation,” he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also highlighted the potential of Cambodia to host the ASEAN Summit, saying in 2002 the country used to hold the event and by then there was a difficulty because of a shortage of meeting facilities, but now such facilities could be offered to the event.

He said recently Cambodia hosted the Eleventh Meeting of the States Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention successfully with the participation of delegates from more than 100 foreign countries and many international organizations.

The Royal Government of Cambodian will allow students of the University of Cambodia to be trained in assisting in the work of the ASEAN Summit.
