PM meets with former UNSG Representative
Former UN Secretary-General’s Representative in Cambodia Mr. Benny Widyono said that Thailand did encroach on Cambodian territorial integrity as he had clearly studied the history of the Preah Vihear Temple area.

In a meeting here today with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen to handover him his book entitled “Dancing in Shadows: Sihanouk, the Khmer Rouge and the United Nations in Cambodia”, Mr. Benny Widyono said he had learned a lot about Preah Vihear Temple and he will help Cambodian ambassador in New York in this matter.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Mr. Benny Widyono for his intention to help Cambodia in the Preah Vihear Temple issue, Ieng Sophalet, assistant to the Cambodian prime minister told reporters after the meeting.

He further detailed Mr. Benny Widyono of the Thai aggression on Cambodia and Cambodia’s measures to prevent this aggression. He also informed his guest of the country’s economy and the government’s strategy to export 1 million tons of rice by 2012.

Dr. Widyono was a peacekeeper with UNTAC from 1992 to 1993 and the political representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cambodia from 1994 to 1997.
