Some 2,600 Buddhist monks have gathered at Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich Island on May 18 in order to mark the Buddha’s Enlightenment Day.

The ceremony was presided over by Lok Chumteav Dr. Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, senators, lawmakers, senior government officials and Phnom Penh dwellers.

The event was also to dedicate to the soul of Cambodian fallen combatants who have sacrificed their flesh and blood for the cause of the nation and the victims of a stampede accident at Koh Pich Bridge in last November.
